The NMWA Collections Database is the online general catalogue of the museum’s holdings, covering the paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, decorative arts and books in the collection, including some “on deposit” items.

Search the Collection
Works of art can be searched by the first letter of the artist’s name. Other options include searching by keyword, artist name, object title and collection number.
Displayed works can also be traced from their position in the gallery as noted on this Permanent Collection map of the galleries.

Data for each art work includes: Artist name, artist dates, artist birth and death locations, object title, object date, materials, techniques, format, size, inscription, credit line, category, collection number, explanatory text, provenance, exhibition history, bibliography, display location. Information in these entries will be updated and appended as available.

The NMWA received a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Grant-in-Aid for Publication of Scientific Research Results during fiscal 2006-2018 to assist with the creation of this database.
