The theme in "Eternal Springtime" is in line with "The Kiss" (1886, S.1959-4) and is a variation of the theme of "love" exemplified by Paolo and Francesca in "The Divine Comedy". The woman's pose is based on a torso Rodin sculpted in 1882 using a model named Adèle. Rodin constantly produced sculptures by combining existing figures and this composition is one such example. This bronze proved extremely popular as the sweet and sensual theme is understandable at first sight and the handsome structure is complete in itself. It was first submitted to the Salon of 1898 and then turned into many variations and replicas in marble and bronze varying in size and form. (Source: The Digital Gallery. 1999-2006)
