This work depicts the landscape around Éragny where Pissarro lived from 1884 until the end of his life. Pissarro was raised in rural settings, and while he occasionally painted the streets of Paris, he exhibited a strong affection for and drew his greatest inspiration from quiet farm village scenes and farmers. Here the scrupulously observed forms are laid down in powerful strokes, clearly exhibiting Pissarro's artistic outlook. (Source: The Digital Gallery. 1999-2006)
