Dubourg, the wife of the painter Henri Fantin-Latour, specialized in portraits and floral or fruit still lifes. In this work, Dubourg has arranged gladiolas, anemones, chrysanthemums, dahlias, carnations, marigolds and snapdragons in a vase, and the detailed palette of their depiction speaks of the artist's love for flowers.
