ボワイエは、貧しい家庭に育ち、印刷工として働いていたときに事故で片腕の自由を失っており、正規の美術教育も受けていないが、いわゆるエコール・ド・パリの画家である。モデルは今世紀の前半にフランスで活躍した画家の藤田嗣治（1886-1968）で、その特徴的なおかっぱ頭とちょび髭が、素朴な技法で捉えられている。（出典: デジタルギャラリー. 1999-2006）

Text Boyer, who was from a poor family, lost the use of one of his arms in an accident that took place while he was working at a printing press. Although he had never received any formal training in the arts, he was a painter of the so-called ﾉcole de Paris. The model is the painter Tsuguji Foujita (1886-1968), who was active in France during the first half of this century. Boyer captured his characteristic pageboy harirstyle and short mustache with an artless technique. (Source: The Digital Gallery. 1999-2006)
