黙示録は新約聖書のうちの1冊で、ヨハネが幻視したこの世の終末と神の国の再臨を記す。ラテン語のテクストにベーハムの下絵による木版画挿絵をつけ、フランクフルトのクリスティアン・エーゲンオルフが1539年に出版した。(出典: クラインマイスター：16世紀前半ドイツにおける小画面の版画家たち, 2012. [展覧会作品解説パネル] より一部、文言変更し引用)
