古代イスラエルの王ソロモンは偉大な賢者であったが、年老いるにつれ、妻や妾たちが異国よりもたらした偶像崇拝にひかれるようになる。これが神の怒りを買い、王国は衰退、ついには分裂をみることになった。旧約聖書より主題を取った9点連作のうちの1点であるが、この連作では本作を含めいずれの作品にも、男を狂わせ、あるいは知恵や行動力で圧倒する女たちが描かれている。(出典: クラインマイスター：16世紀前半ドイツにおける小画面の版画家たち, 2012. [展覧会作品解説パネル])
