ネーデルラントの版画家ルカス・ファン・レイデンは、使徒パウロの改宗を巡る物語を異時同図の手法で大画面に表現している。サウロは改宗前の使徒パウロの名。サウロ時代の彼はキリスト教徒迫害に熱意を燃やす男であった。画面左奥には光に打たれ落馬しかけるサウロの姿が見え、前景に大きく描き出されている一団のなかにもふたたび、人々についてダマスカスへ向かう視力を失ったサウロが見出せる。異時同図という古い表現手法をあえて採用して話全体を語ろうとする点、また、劇的な場面をあえて副次的なものとして物語を表現している点など、この主題の扱いにはレイデンの個性が表われているといえる。（出典: デジタルギャラリー. 1999-2006）

Saul is the name of Saint Paul prior to his conversion. Before he was converted, he was a zealous persecutor of the Christians. At the rear left, Saul is depicted struck by a sudden light and also he is shown amidst the group in the front, having lost light and following the people on their way to Damascus. In this work, van Lyden chose the classic method of narrating a story by capturing two different incidents in the same scene and deliberately depicted the dramatic scene as a secondary theme.
