Lawson Peacock & Co., London, as ‘The Descent from the Cross’ by Leseur [gallery label on backboard]; Kojiro Matsukata, Kobe; pledged by Matsukata to save his business, Kawasaki Dockyard Co., Ltd., Kobe and then seized by Jugo Bank, Tokyo, 1927; 2nd Matsukata sale, Tokyo, 3–19 April 1929, lot 8; private collection, Japan; deposited in NMWA, 25 January 2016, ref. no. 75; purchased by NMWA, 13 July 2017.
