松方コレクションには1918年4月25日にロンドンのサザビーズで開かれた画家エドワード・ポインター（1836-1919）の競売に由来されると推定される素描が20点近くある。その多くはマットにおそらく同じ手でこの時の出品番号や何らかの通し番号などの情報が記されており、この競売でまとめて購入した画商を通して松方はこれらの素描を買ったと推測される。ポインターはレイトンと並んでヴィクトリア朝の英国画壇に君臨した画家のひとりにして素描コレクターとしても知られる。なお、1918年の競売にはしばしばポインターの曽祖父の彫刻家トマス・バンクス（1735-1805）のコレクションに由来する素描も含まれており、松方所蔵の素描にも彼らの所蔵者印が散見される。本展では今後の詳しい調査がまたれる作品をいくつか紹介する。〈中略〉《本と剣を持つ男性裸像》は聖パウロの習作と考えられている。輪郭線に沿って針の穴が多数存在するが、これは素描を転写するためになされたものであり、この素描がバンディネッリのオリジナルであり、それを写すために輪郭線に沿って針でつついた可能性が高い。（出典: 国立西洋美術館開館60周年記念 松方コレクション展. 東京, 国立西洋美術館, 2019. cat. no. 13、一部文言修正）
