松方コレクションには1918年4月25日にロンドンのサザビーズで開かれた画家エドワード・ポインター（1836-1919）の競売に由来されると推定される素描が20点近くある。その多くはマットにおそらく同じ手でこの時の出品番号や何らかの通し番号などの情報が記されており、この競売でまとめて購入した画商を通して松方はこれらの素描を買ったと推測される。ポインターはレイトンと並んでヴィクトリア朝の英国画壇に君臨した画家のひとりにして素描コレクターとしても知られる。なお、1918年の競売にはしばしばポインターの曽祖父の彫刻家トマス・バンクス（1735-1805）のコレクションに由来する素描も含まれており、松方所蔵の素描にも彼らの所蔵者印が散見される。本展では今後の詳しい調査がまたれる作品をいくつか紹介する。《鷹匠》はかつてホルバイン作とされたが、その後、AとGを組み合わせたモノグラムが画面右下にあることがわかり、宗教改革期の版画家として知られるハインリヒ・アルデグレーファーの手に帰する可能性も検討されている。（出典: 国立西洋美術館開館60周年記念 松方コレクション展. 東京, 国立西洋美術館, 2019. cat. no. 12、一部文言修正）
