Renoir suffered both physically and mentally in his later years and his creation of pictorially lovely scenes filled with happiness may have been an attempt to forget these difficulties. The color harmony in these works is particularly superb, and stands as testimony to the colorism of Renoir's late years. Here, three figures in the midst of the landscape are bathed in the warm light of the just set sun. (Source: The Digital Gallery. 1999-2006)
