Purchased from the artist for 1,500 fr. by Galerie E. Druet, Paris, 1917 and delivered there, 8 October 1917, stock no. 9438 [see records in the Archives Catalogue raisonné Maurice Denis, Saint-Germain-en-Laye]; purchased from the above by Gabriel Thomas, 15 October 1917; bought back by Galerie E. Druet, 30 April 1921; purchased from Galerie E. Druet by Kojiro Matsukata, Kobe, ca. December 1921 [see letters dated 10 and 13 December 1921 from Galerie E. Druet to Léonce Bénédite, in the Bibliothèque centrale des musées nationaux, Paris (copies in NMWA curatorial file)]; sequestered by French government, 1944; vested in French government under San Francisco Peace Treaty, 1952; transferred from French to Japanese government, 23 January 1959; entered into NMWA, April 1959.
