All of Aman-Jean's images of women painted during his symbolist period were homogeneous in form and represented the "femme fatale" type of fin de siècle. This image of a young girl painted in gentle colors and brushstrokes, however, does not reflect this type. Instead it reveals the subject matter that Aman-Jean saw in his immediate surroundings during his later years, and exhibits his warm sensitivity to beautiful things.
