この《永遠の青春》は、テーマ的には《接吻》（1886年、S.1959-4）と同系統の、『神曲』のパオロとフランチェスカに見られるような「愛」のテーマのヴァリエーションである。ここで扱われている女性の姿態は、1882年にアデールという名のモデルをもとにロダンが制作したトルソが下敷きとなっており、ロダンの彫刻には常に見られる、既成の彫刻の組み合わせによる構成の一例と考えてよい。誰にでも一見して理解可能な甘く官能的な主題と、完結した美しい構成によってこの彫刻は非常な人気を博した。1898年のサロンに初出品されたのち、大理石やブロンズによる、大きさや形を多少異にするヴァージョンやレプリカが数多くつくられている。（出典: デジタルギャラリー. 1999-2006）

The theme in "Eternal Springtime" is in line with "The Kiss" (1886, S.1959-4) and is a variation of the theme of "love" exemplified by Paolo and Francesca in "The Divine Comedy". The woman's pose is based on a torso Rodin sculpted in 1882 using a model named Adèle. Rodin constantly produced sculptures by combining existing figures and this composition is one such example.This bronze proved extremely popular as the sweet and sensual theme is understandable at first sight and the handsome structure is complete in itself. It was first submitted to the Salon of 1898 and then turned into many variations and replicas in marble and bronze varying in size and form. (Source: The Digital Gallery. 1999-2006)

Bought from Musée Rodin by Kojiro Matsukata, Kobe through Léonce Bénédite, ca. July 1923, as ‘Le Printemps’ (Fr. 35,000) [see several letters between Bénédite and Suzuki & Co., July 1923, in Archives of Musée Rodin, Paris; copy in NMWA curatorial files]; sequestered by French government, 1944; vested in French government under San Francisco Peace Treaty, 1952; transferred from French to Japanese government, 23 January 1959; entered into NMWA, April 1959.
