この作品は、グスタフ・ヴァーゲンの著『大英帝国の美術品』（1854年）で初めて公けにされたが、当時署名が塗り潰されていたのか、北イタリアの画家ガウデンツィオ・フェラーリの作とされた。構図は前景から中景、さらに遠景へと自然に展開し、色彩は鮮やかで変化に富んでいる。前景の人物にはコレッジョの影響が認められる一方、左背後の魅力ある風景描写にはミニアチュール画家としてのレオンブルーノの繊細な感覚と、北方、特にフランドル的技法が窺われる。今日知られるレオンブルーノの確実なタブローは極めて少ないので、本作品は小品ながらもその貴重な一点と言えよう。（出典: 国立西洋美術館名作選. 東京, 国立西洋美術館, 2006. cat. no. 15）

This work was first published in G.F. Waagen's Treasures of Art in Great Britain (1854), and as the signature must have been painted over at that time, was attributed to the northern Italian artist Gaudenzio Ferrari. The composition develops naturally from foreground to middle ground and then onto the background, and the color scheme is richly varied. While we can spot the influence of Correggio in the foreground figures, the landscape elements in the background speak of the detailed style of the miniaturist Leonbruno and a northern, particularly Flemish technique. This work, while small, is extremely important as few authenticated works by Leonbruno remain today.(Source: Masterpieces of the National Museum of Western Art, Tokyo, 2009, cat. no. 15)
