《イヴと未来》第2版 1882年（初版1880年） 旧約聖書に書かれたイヴの物語から3つの場面、「イヴの誕生」、「蛇に誘惑されるイヴ」、「楽園から追放されるアダムとイヴ」を取り上げて、それぞれに、未来のあり方を象徴的に表した3つの場面を組み合わせて構成されている。まず人類の「原罪」を表す場面があり、そのあとに未来が示されている。 第3葉 蛇 蛇に誘惑されるイヴの場面。「知恵の木の実」をつけた「禁断の樹」には蛇がぶら下がり、一枚の鏡をイヴに見せている。禁断の木の実を手にしたイヴは、自らの姿をその鏡に映し、笑みをたたえながら自分の鏡像にじっと見入っている。鏡は「傲慢」「虚栄」「淫欲」などを象徴する。（出典: マックス・クリンガー版画展：《イヴと未来》《ある生涯》《ある愛》, 2005.
