軽やかな筆致で描かれた細身のモデルの姿態は、縦長の画面いっぱいに伸びている。ロダンのこの頃の素描は、殆ど文学的、象徴的意味付けを捨て去り、対象の形と運動が生み出す存在感だけを描こうとするに至った。時折みられる文学的な題名は描かれた素描を前に、友人たちとともに、思いつくままに即興的に付けて行った結果とも伝えられている。（出典: 国立西洋美術館名作選. 東京, 国立西洋美術館, 2004. cat. no. 113）
